Diego Chavarria and his wife Leslie operate a coffee farm in Matagalpa Nicaragua known as El Dorado. The farm stretches for 180 hectors and the plantation produces all Arabica coffee ranging from Catuai, Catimor and Sarchimor. Despite the situation with Roya in Central America, their family has watched their yield expand, currently now at five containers a year but hopefully increasing to six by the 2015-2016 harvest.

Direct Trade has benefited this family and their workers by allowing to not only improve quality and yields of their coffee but also produce the income needed to better pay the workers on the farm. Eight months out of a year, the farm employs 50 workers and when harvest and picking season, that increases to 200-350 people.

Not only has direct trade coffee helped with the farmers lives but they have also reached out into their community and have been blessed to support 21 churches in the area with pastor help, construction projects and construction materials. This is what we at Passionate Harvest Coffee call true transformation and sustainability. Their prayer is that God would continue to bless and open the doors through our roasters and others so that this work can continue.
